The origin of pathogenic hybrids in the Candida clade was unknown. By sequencing environmental yeast samples isolated from warm seawater, we identify the missing parental lineage and suggest a potential environmental origin of hybrids with pathogenic potential.Published in Microbiology, Nov 2023.
