We are happy to share that our past member, Jesse Willis has won the award with the thesis Oral Microbiome: Composition, Interactions and Shaping Factors (2021), directed by Toni Gabaldón and performed in our group. .
This thesis provides for the first time a global view of the oral microbiome of the Spanish population, revealing significant connections with oral health, systemic health and other lifestyle factors. The nearly 3,000 samples analyzed by this thesis come from the citizen science project called “Saca la Lengua“, of which Jesse has been part. For more information you can find the thesis here.
